The fortified residence built in 1732 by Peshwa Bajirao I as the seat of Maratha administrative power in Pune, growing over decades into a sprawling seven-storey palace complex. A fire in 1828 destroyed most of the original wooden structures, leaving only the massive stone gates and foundations standing today.
