When Sultan Bahadur Shah lost it to the Mughals in 1535, the city was abandoned so abruptly that it was never resettled, leaving its 15th-century street plan almost intact.
A rare, unaltered pre-Mughal Islamic city built by Sultan Mahmud Begada in the late 15th century as his capital, blending Hindu and Islamic architectural elements. The park spans forts, palaces, mosques, tombs, step-wells, and agricultural structures spread across the base and slopes of Pavagadh Hill, alongside the Kalika Mata Temple at its summit, making it one of the few complete, unmoved Islamic pre-Mughal cities in India.
