A rare, unaltered pre-Mughal Islamic city built by Sultan Mahmud Begada in the late 15th century as his capital, blending Hindu and Islamic architectural elements. The park spans forts, palaces, mosques, tombs, step-wells, and agricultural structures spread across the base and slopes of Pavagadh Hill, alongside the Kalika Mata Temple at its summit, making it one of the few complete, unmoved Islamic pre-Mughal cities in India.
Did you know? Champaner was abandoned so abruptly after Sultan Bahadur Shah lost it to the Mughals in 1535 that it was never rebuilt or resettled, leaving its 15th-century street plan and buildings remarkably intact, almost a time capsule.
