A Gothic Revival monument built in 1864 to commemorate Sir Bartle Frere, the Governor of Bombay whose reclamation and infrastructure projects reshaped the city's Fort district. Standing at a busy traffic junction, its ornate stone carvings and figures make it one of colonial Bombay's most elaborate civic fountains. It has become an unofficial landmark and meeting point in the historic Fort precinct. The surrounding area retains much of its 19th-century streetscape.

Did you know? Flora Fountain was built in 1864 to honour Sir Bartle Frere, the Governor of Bombay who oversaw the demolition of the old fort walls and the city's major 19th-century expansion — the square around it was later renamed Hutatma Chowk after 1960s language-movement martyrs.
