About

India's first museum dedicated entirely to the history of Indian music, opened in 2016 in Bengaluru and spanning genres from ancient temple music to Bollywood and contemporary pop. Its interactive exhibits combine rare instruments, archival recordings and immersive digital displays covering classical, folk, devotional and film music traditions across the subcontinent. The museum was founded with support from the music industry to preserve and popularise India's musical heritage for younger audiences. It remains a distinctly hands-on museum experience compared to Bengaluru's more traditional heritage institutions.

Did you know? The Indian Music Experience is India's first interactive music museum, letting visitors play virtual instruments and trace the evolution of Indian music from folk traditions to Bollywood using touchscreen technology.
