About
The Moidams are earthen mound-burial tumuli of the Ahom dynasty, which ruled Assam for nearly 600 years. The necropolis at Charaideo, the Ahoms' first capital, holds around 90 royal moidams built to house cremated remains — a distinctive funerary tradition often compared to the pyramids of Egypt or the tumuli of Korea's Silla dynasty.
Did you know? The Ahom dynasty ruled parts of Assam for almost six centuries — one of the few kingdoms in Indian history the Mughal Empire never managed to permanently conquer, despite repeated attempts.
