About
One of the world's oldest residential universities, Nalanda Mahavihara flourished from the 5th to the 13th century CE, drawing thousands of monks and scholars from across Asia — including China, Korea, and Tibet — to study Buddhist philosophy, logic, medicine and astronomy under a sprawling campus of monasteries, temples and lecture halls.
Did you know? Chinese pilgrim-scholar Xuanzang studied here in the 7th century and later wrote detailed accounts describing a library so vast it reportedly burned for three months after Bakhtiyar Khilji's raid in the 1190s.
