Housed in a restored 1872 Palladian-style building in Byculla, this museum (formerly the Victoria and Albert Museum) focuses on decorative and industrial arts, clay models of Indian trades, and Mumbai's civic history. Its centrepiece is a giant fibreglass replica of the Elephanta Caves' Trimurti sculpture. Restored to its original grandeur through an award-winning conservation project in the 2000s, it also displays 19th-century clay figurines depicting Bombay street life. The building sits within the Byculla Zoo (Veermata Jijabai Bhonsale Udyan) grounds.
Did you know? The Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum, opened in 1872, is Mumbai's oldest museum, it was extensively restored in the 2000s and won a UNESCO Asia-Pacific Award for Cultural Heritage Conservation for the effort.
