About
One of the largest and best-preserved cities of the Indus Valley Civilisation, occupied from roughly 3000 to 1500 BCE on the arid island of Khadir in the Rann of Kutch. Dholavira's fortified citadel, middle and lower towns, and sophisticated water-harvesting system of reservoirs and channels reveal a highly stratified urban society engineered to survive in a water-scarce desert landscape.
Did you know? Long before modern water conservation became a buzzword, Dholavira's Harappan engineers built an elaborate network of stone-cut reservoirs covering nearly a third of the city's area — a 4,000-year-old masterclass in monsoon water harvesting.
